Hair Care Tips

Follow this hair care guide to increase the life span of your hair extensions.

Cleanse Carefully:
There is no right answer for how often you should wash your hair extensions. It is different for everyone. You will know when the time is right by the appearance and feel of your hair. If it doesn't feel dirty, there is no reason to wash it. It is as simple as that.

Wet hair thoroughly and then add just a dab of shampoo. You will be amazed at how little is really needed. If you don't have the lather you desire, try adding a little more water instead of shampoo. De-tangle hair before washing. Avoid harsh shampoos; instead, use a moisturizing shampoo that is no higher than PH 7.

Don’t pile the hair extensions on top of your head. This creates tangles. Instead gently shampoo the hair in one direction only. Do not use a volumizing shampoo, as it will cause the hair to mat and tangle. If the hair feels dry or heavy with build up, wash it with a clarifying shampoo.

Always Condition:
Hair extensions do not receive nourishment from your scalp, so it is important to keep them moisturized. It is also advisable to deep condition hair extensions at least once, to soften and moisturize. If you have fusion hair extensions or if you applied your hair extensions with adhesives (glue or tape) do not apply condition to the top half near the scalp and hair line. The oils in hair conditioner may cause the adhesive to loosen.

Better Brushing:
Your hair extensions should be detangled once a day. Use a wide tooth comb/brush. Gently detangle small sections at a time, start at the bottom of your hair and work your way towards the top. Support your attachment when brushing or combing your hair.

Styling Tips:
An advantage of human hair extensions is that you can style it like you would your own hair. Heat is your hair extensions biggest enemy. Too must heat can damage human hair extensions, just as it would your own natural hair. Avoid constant heat and use heat protection spray when using hot styling tools.

It is best to use styling products that are alcohol free; which tend to dry your hair out. Remember less is more when it comes to styling product. Too much will weight your hair extensions down and make them look and feel oily.

Sleeping With Hair Extensions:
Do not sleep with your hair wet, as this will create matting and tangling. It is always good to detangle your hair and put it into braids or tied up in a bun before going to sleep. This will avoid any unwanted tangles.

Swimming With Hair Extensions:
It is always good to brush your hair extensions and put it into braids before swimming or wading in any type of water. This will avoid any unwanted tangles and matting. Dry hair soaks up more salt water and chlorine than does already-wet hair; which, means dry hair incurs more damage after swimming. Use plain tap water to soak hair before you take the plunge. Immediately after showering undo braid, comb hair and let air-dry. Follow with a moisturizing shampooing and deep conditioning because sun, chlorine, and salt water can sap the moisture out of your hair extensions.

Hand Tied Weft Special Care:
Hand tied wefts are done by hand and are much thinner than machine wefts. Hand tied wefts should never be cut before securing. If it is cut without securing the weft, it may shed. If it is cut, we recommend that you seal it with a hair sealer or glue (nail glue or fabric glue). Also, one should never sew through top of the weft instead sew around the weft. The main reason for wefts shedding is because the weft is not cut or sewn properly.
